Chithambara takes its name from the old Tamil word for the space where awareness meets the open sky. It’s the same stillness we return to on the mat — a powerful space built around one idea: form settles, breath remains.
Three things we return to, in order.
First
Every class begins in the breath, not the pose. We slow it down until the body has something to follow, instead of the other way around.
Then
The postures are the visible part of practice: a place to build strength, patience, and an honest read of what your body is actually telling you.
What remains
What’s left when the form falls away. The quiet minute at the end of class isn’t a pause in the practice — it is the practice.
Gaya Subramaniam, founder
Chidambaram means the “sky of consciousness.”
In the old temple town of Chidambaram, the innermost sanctum is said to hold nothing at all — an open space behind a curtain, standing in for awareness without form. We borrowed the name for what it says about practice, not for the theology: the point was never to arrive at a perfect shape. It’s to notice the space you’re moving through to get there.
In 2023, Gaya founded Chithambara Yoga at KSL Avenue, Klang — a sanctuary for seekers and health enthusiasts looking to deepen their inner awareness and connect with holistic healing practices. She believes that through consistent practice, you can reconnect with your own inner guru and illuminate from within.

Rooted in the Ashtanga tradition, taught breath-first, whatever the style.
Slow, held postures and long breath counts. The place to start, and the place experienced students come back to.
View timesBreath-linked movement in the tradition passed down from Tirumalai Krishnamacharya. Strength and rhythm, without ever losing the breath.
View timesPrecise, subtle work with seals and locks — the more advanced layer of the practice, taught slowly and carefully.
View timesBreathwork, mantra and seated stillness for students who want the practice beyond the postures.
View timesA class most mornings, a few most evenings.
Classes are kept small, so early booking is worth it.
A weekend on breath, stillness, and everything in between.
Two days off the mat’s usual rhythm — longer pranayama sessions, guided meditation, and an open conversation on building a home practice that actually sticks.
Sat–Sun, 9 AM–1 PM
Date to be announced.
A practice held for more than two decades.

“It’s the only studio where I’ve actually finished savasana without checking the time.”
“Gaya’s lineage really shows — the attention to alignment and breath is unlike any class I’ve taken.”
“Small classes, real instruction, no mirrors competing with your own breath. Exactly what I needed.”
